Our renewed team brings a fresh perspective, yet our mission remains the same: to preserve and carry forward the decades-long traditions of Jégbüfé.

For us, the reopening marks a new beginning — one that respectfully builds upon past values while at the same time introducing new dimensions to the life of our patisserie.

Milestones

The Beginnings

Jégbüfé first opened its doors in 1952, founded by Sándor Flaschner, Endre Papp, and István Bori, who also served as the pastry shop’s very first manager. As the shop originally sold ice cream, parfaits, and other frozen delicacies, the name Jégbüfé — literally “Ice Buffet” — was a natural choice (though in those early days it was still written with an f).

The Iconic Location

For decades, Jégbüfé was one of Budapest’s busiest landmarks, located on Kígyó Street, right next to the Ferenciek Square. It quickly became one of the city’s most beloved patisseries. The fact that it remained open for so long, even in difficult times, was largely thanks to its loyal customers who continued to cherish its traditions while welcoming each renewal.

The Famous Jégbüfé Ice Cream

Jégbüfé earned nationwide fame for its house-made ice creams. In the 1960s, when a scoop of ice cream was still a rarity in Budapest, Jégbüfé’s creations became true curiosities — enjoyed even in winter. Guests would travel from Csepel or Kispest just to taste these specialties, making Jégbüfé an essential stop for sweet indulgence.

A New Location, the Same Quality

Today, in our renewed environment on Fény Street, we continue to welcome dessert lovers with the same unwavering quality. Alongside our wide selection of cakes and ice creams, we now offer artisanal tortes, unique coffee specialties, and of course, our waffles prepared according to our very own recipe.

All our cakes and ice creams are 100% free from artificial flavourings. We believe in tradition, which is why we use only fresh and natural ingredients — the only way to guarantee the authentic Jégbüfé experience.

Handcrafted

All of Jégbüfé’s sweets are prepared using artisanal methods, with care and expertise — ensuring that every guest leaves our patisserie fully satisfied.

Free from Artificial Colourings

All our products are completely free of artificial colourings. We rely on the natural hues of fresh ingredients when creating our recipes, so our desserts are as healthy as possible.

Preservative-Free

At Jégbüfé we have been dedicated to freshness for decades — that is why we never use preservatives. We continue to believe in the magic of freshly made desserts enjoyed on the spot.

Vegan

We care equally for everyone who wishes to taste our sweets. That is why, alongside our traditional products, we also offer a wide selection of vegan options.

Real Butter

Quality ingredients are essential to maintaining the signature Jégbüfé standard. That is why we use only real butter (never margarine) in our desserts.

Fresh Eggs

We believe in care and quality ingredients. For this reason, we never replace fresh eggs with egg powder or any substitutes.

Fresh Cream

It is no coincidence that Jégbüfé ice cream has become a household name. Staying true to tradition, we continue to work with artisanal methods and freshly cooked cream — never from powdered substitutes.
